BIGGEST MORELS I'VE EVER SEEN, Huge NY Late Season Yellows
Late season morel hunt featuring my favorite mushroom hunting buddy and some of the biggest yellow morels I've ever seen here in NY. Steady temps and precipitation in early May spawned some true giants this year (2024). Definitely a day I'll never forget, and very glad I got to share it with my daughter.

    When I lived in British Columbia, Canada I used to forage for mushrooms all the time. Tho Reishi were not something I came across very often, I wanted to share a technique I used to make use of the less desirable mushrooms and parts of mushrooms. Fine and delicate mushrooms of smaller size like common Fairy Ring shrooms that most people battle with in their lawns - I''d pick them and dry them like you are doing with your Reishi and when brittle dry I'd put them into my blender and turn them into flour/powder and use them for thickening things like gravies and stews, adding flavor to soups etc. Many people don't bother with species like those but they have incredible flavor when concentrated like this. I'd also save fibrous and woody stems that may not be the best for eating fresh and do the same thing. I'd run batches of different mushrooms in each batch and have jars of mushroom powders throughout the kitchen. I made tinctures/teas, and many other things with this otherwise overlooked resource. When I'd have a poorly productive hunt, if I had enough mushrooms that were enough to dry I'd do a mixed batch and had a 1 gallon pickle jar that became the "catch all" mixed mushroom powder jar. Everything got used. I hope this gives you some ideas! I've only just found your channel and love your content, especially the growing content as that is the direction I'd like to head with mushrooms. Here in the Philippines tho it is very hot and humid. I know I will have to A/C the growing areas as daily temps are 34-36C right now and it is the cooler rainy season part of the year. Might be hard to do but I'll keep reading and trying to learn more. Perhaps there are varieties more naturally suited to the local temperatures here. Thank you for your videos. New subscriber now! Cheers

    This was super helpful!! I’m currently planning on doing experiments that involve mushrooms and I needed to learn how to grow them quick. This was super easy to follow and it uses resources that almost anybody can get. Two questions I have though, when you refer to a “clean room” what exactly do you man? Like a room with not much dust or a space that’s simply organized? Second after the mycelium is solid or fully formed (if that’s the correct terminology) what’s next? Do you have a video following that that shows how to let the mushrooms fully grow? Sorry if those are dumb question I just want to ensure success on my mushrooms growth! Thank you for the wonderful video! 😊

    I appreciate the info, but seriously soooo much bad info provided in this vid. 1) Hardwood is not preferable, it's required. Soft woods naturally create anti-fungal substances for those type of mushrooms. 2) Your impulse sealer last 20 years? I assure you no impulse sealer in the world lasts that long if you are actually doing production. 3) You are not working in front of a flow hood, under one, or a still air box. You are lucky you grow lucky anything at all. 4) No gloves, no discussion of sterilization... None... Please, leave the tek to the pros. You have a lot to learn before you try to teach other people

    The plastic of your cooler is PP05? Or PEHD? Or other? Thx! Nice tek! Do you think it's possible to use a bigger cooler to pasteurize like 8 or 16 bags with only hot water? Or is it better to use an external steam generetor and put steam inside the cooler? Maybe use a PID controler to use less energy.

    • @RenegadeMushrooms
      @RenegadeMushrooms День назад

      I don't see the plastic identified anywhere on the cooler but I'm guessing it's not PP5. I've done both external steam and just hot water pasteurization. I definitely prefer the hot water/hold the heat method I use in this video if you can get away with it, but both work. I think you could definitely do more bags in a larger cooler and still have success, at least with 20% bran.

    15psi allows water to boil at sterilization temperatures. As long as the pot is at 15 psi and the water is boiling, everything inside will eventually reach sterilization temp. Even if the inside was only full of air, as long as it's at the right temp, it will sterilize. Amount of steam is trivial as long as there's water inside boiling under 15 psi.

    Question could you use the water for making agar like grain water or no? Random thought lol

    • @RenegadeMushrooms
      @RenegadeMushrooms 24 дня назад

      I know some people make water agar specifically because the lack of nutrients helps in cleaning up cultures. Really any nutrient source can be added to enhance growth as long as it is easily digestible by the mycelium.

    Sorry for my English, I'm writing with the help of a translator. I can't find your engine anywhere in Google (by the inscription on it) Please share the link. What do you think, if the engine is more powerful, but it will have a speed controller. Will it be possible to adjust it to laminar flow in your box?

      @RenegadeMushrooms 24 дня назад

      This is the one I used in the video, but it can't be adjusted. www.aero-flo.com/centrifugalfans/ Model CF150 If I were you I would buy a more powerful one that can be adjusted down using a rheostat.

    Thank you so much for the video! Ive been making plug spawn for a few months now, i have had no problem with italian and pink oysters but my lions main and Shiitake has been very slow with limited sucess. I would like to ask what is the room temperature you have when growing out your dowels. Is it the same for all varieties? Perhaps i have my room to hot or to cold, or the air exchange is not enough for growth? Please help . Best regards Michael

      I incubate everything between 65 - 70 F. Most other species are slow when compared to oysters but it could also be an air exchange issue. Make sure you have some type of filter disc in the lid.

    I cannot find a 40 pound fuel pellets for 5 bucks! Where do you buy them at?

    • @RenegadeMushrooms
      @RenegadeMushrooms 26 дней назад

      That video is from a couple years ago, but you can get them all over Western NY for around $7 a bag, sometimes a bit cheaper if you buy in bulk. All the big box and farm stores have them.

      @@RenegadeMushrooms I will try in my next batch, it's cheaper, available and more nutritional, my main concern is lentil has enough complex carbonhydatres to supplement ideal growth, will try and learn.
